Toyohisa Shimazu is the rearguard for his retreating troops during the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600, and he is critically wounded when he finds himself in a modern, gleaming white hallway. Faced with only a stoic man named Murasaki and hundreds of doors on both sides, Toyohisa is drawn into the nearest door and transported to a world entirely different from his own.

The strange land is inhabited by a variety of fantastical creatures, as well as warriors from various eras of Toyohisa’s world who were previously thought to be dead. Toyohisa quickly befriends the infamous warlord Nobunaga Oda and the ancient archer Yoichi Suketaka Nasu and learns about the continent’s political unrest. Furthermore, they have been summoned as “Drifters” to fight the “Ends,” the people who created the Orte Empire and are attempting to destroy the Drifters. The Empire’s persecution of elves and other demihumans intensifies as the Ends grow in power. Toyohisa and his group of unconventional heroes must fight in a brand-new world war to assist the Empire’s subjects while protecting the land to claim for themselves and challenging the Ends.

Off-duty Youji Itami, a Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) officer and otaku, is on his way to a doujin convention in Ginza, Tokyo, when a mysterious portal shaped like a large gate appears. From this gate, supernatural creatures and warriors dressed in medieval armor charge through the city, killing and destroying everything in their path. Youji acts quickly to save as many lives as possible while the rest of the JSDF focuses their efforts on stopping the invasion.

Three months after the attack, Youji has been tasked with leading a special recon team as part of a JSDF task force that will be dispatched to the world beyond the gate, now known as the “Special Region.” They must travel into this unknown world to learn more about what they are dealing with and to make friends with the locals in the hopes of establishing peaceful relations with the ruling Empire. However, if they fail, they will be forced to participate in a devastating war that will engulf both sides of the gates.

These words describe Seiya Ryuuguuin a little too accurately. After being summoned by the goddess Ristarte to save Gaeabrande from destruction, the hero prepares for his noble journey. While this may seem normal, he spends a significant amount of time training himself, despite his overpowered stats. He fights weak enemies with his strongest skills and buys an excessive amount of supplies and potions in order to stay alive.

While his attitude may be annoying, it could be Gaeabrande’s saving grace, especially in a world where the forces of evil dominate all expectations.
