The Summer 2023 anime season is well underway, with plenty of titles having aired at least one episode, allowing fans to compare which series had the best start. It’s too early to tell which anime will be the season’s top performer, but based on their first episodes, it’s clear which ones are in the lead.
The Spring 2023 anime season was amazing in itself with Oshi no Ko breaking records here and there. And although the Summer 2023 Anime season comprises less anime than the last season but worry not, with new releases like Zom 100 and returning anime like JUJUTSU KAISEN there are plenty of amazing anime to look forward to!
So, without waiting any further, here are the 15 Must Watch Anime to Watch in Summer 2023!

15. My Tiny Senpai
“My senpai from work… is tiny and cute.”
Shiori Katase, his senior team member, is a gorgeous, profoundly kind, loving, and diminutive woman who looks after and coddles Shinozaki.
Shinozaki hopes she’s not doing it out of obligation… but her joy in doing so is exposing her feelings!
14. Rurouni Kenshin (2023)
Ten years have passed since the end of Bakumatsu, a period of war in which citizens rose up against the Tokugawa shogunate. The revolutionaries desired a period of peace and a prosperous country free of oppression. The Meiji era has arrived, but peace has yet to be achieved. Swords are prohibited, but people are still killed in the streets. Orphans of war veterans have nowhere to turn, while the government appears content to simply line their pockets with money.
Kenshin Himura, a wandering samurai, is still working to ensure that the values he fought for are worth the lives sacrificed to bring about the new era. He was once known as Hitokiri Battousai, and he was feared as the most ruthless of all revolutionaries. Kenshin, now haunted by guilt, has vowed never to kill again in retaliation for the lives he took, and he may never find peace until the killing is abolished.
In the 11th year of Meiji, Kenshin comes across Kaoru Kamiya, the owner and head instructor of a small dojo that is being threatened with closure. The police are powerless to stop a series of murders committed in the name of her dojo by a man claiming to be the legendary Battousai. Kenshin’s wanderings are put on hold for the time being as he joins Kaoru to clear both of their names. But how long can he keep this up before his past catches up with him?
13. Liar, Liar
Everything on Academy Island is decided by “Games” for a certain number of stars, with the strongest student receiving the ranking of Seven Stars. Hiroto, a transfer student, unexpectedly defeats the strongest empress and becomes the school’s pseudo-strongest! Begin a mind game of lies and bluffs!
12. My Happy Marriage
Miyo Saimori was the unfortunate offspring of an arranged marriage. Her father brought in his lover and her own daughter, Kaya, after her mother died. Miyo’s life was reduced to that of a servant from then on. Worse, while Kaya inherited the family’s psychic abilities, Miyo lacked them entirely—she was truly the unworthy daughter.
Miyo has learned to keep her head down, hide her pain, and obey every order after years of being treated like dirt. So it’s no surprise that she’s been set up to marry Kiyoka Kudou, a military captain rumored to be so cruel that he’s turned down all of his potential wives so far.

11. The Devil is a Part-Timer!! S2
Second Season of The Devil is a Part-Timer!! (Hataraku Maou-sama!!).
With his vast demon armies, the Demon Lord Satan begins to conquer the land of Ente Isla, striking fear into the hearts of mortals. However, while embarking on this heinous quest to conquer the continent, Satan’s efforts are thwarted by the hero Emilia, forcing Satan to flee through a dimensional portal only to land in the human world. The demon, along with his loyal general Alsiel, is stranded in modern-day Tokyo and vows to return and complete his subjugation of Ente Isla—if they can find a way back!
In a world without magic, Satan disguises himself as a human named Sadao Maou and starts working at MgRonald’s, a local fast-food restaurant, to make ends meet. He quickly realizes that conquering Ente Isla is not enough, and he becomes determined to climb the corporate ladder and become Earth’s ruler, one satisfied customer at a time!
Hataraku Maou-sama! presents a hilarious view of the most mundane aspects of everyday life, all through the eyes of a hapless demon lord, whether it’s part-time work, household chores, or simply trying to pay the rent on time.
10. Bungo Stray Dogs S5
Fifth Season of Bungou Stray Dogs.
For weeks, the orphanage of Atsushi Nakajima has been plagued by a mystical tiger that only he seems to be aware of. The 18-year-old is abruptly kicked out of the orphanage and left hungry, homeless, and wandering through the city after being suspected of being behind the strange incidents.
While starving on a riverbank, Atsushi saves a rather eccentric man named Osamu Dazai from drowning. Whimsical suicide enthusiast and supernatural detective, Dazai has been investigating the same tiger that has been terrorizing the boy. Together with Dazai’s partner Doppo Kunikida, they solve the mystery, but its resolution leaves Atsushi in a tight spot. As various odd events take place, Atsushi is coerced into joining their firm of supernatural investigators, taking on unusual cases the police cannot handle, alongside his numerous enigmatic co-workers.
9. The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses
As Ai Mie’s deskmate, Kaede Komura is constantly fixated on her. Attracted by her cute charms, all he wants is for her to look at him with those beautiful eyes hidden behind her glasses. But, only a few days after meeting her, Kaede notices something odd about Ai: her eyes are squinting and her glasses are missing. Nonetheless, he thinks she’s adorable!
Surprisingly, Ai has a habit of forgetting her glasses. She struggles to get through her school day because she has poor vision. Fortunately, Kaede is eager to assist her. Kaede’s feelings for Ai grow stronger as she begins to rely on him. Similarly, despite her short-sightedness, Kaede gradually transforms into the person Ai always wishes to see.
8. Rent-a-Girlfriend S3
Third season of Rent-a-Girlfriend (Kanojo, Okarishimasu). I don’t have anything to say about this one… Just read the synopsis:
Kazuya Kinoshita, a 20-year-old college student, has a wonderful girlfriend named Mami Nanami. But he doesn’t anymore. Mami abruptly ends their relationship, leaving him heartbroken and lonely. To alleviate his pain, he hires a rental girlfriend through an online app. Chizuru Mizuhara, his partner, wins Kazuya’s affection with her unparalleled beauty and cute demeanor.
However, after reading about other customers’ similar experiences with Chizuru, Kazuya believes her warm smile and caring personality are all a ruse to play with his heart, and he rates her poorly. Chizuru, enraged, slams him for his shameless hypocrisy, revealing her true pert and hot-tempered self. This one-sided conversation is cut short when Kazuya learns that his grandmother has passed away.
They rush to the hospital, where they find Kazuya’s grandmother in good condition. She is perplexed by Chizuru’s presence and wonders who this girl is. On the spur of the moment, Kazuya declares that they are lovers, forcing Chizuru to play the part. But, with Kazuya still haunted by his previous relationship with Mami, how long can this difficult client and reluctant rental girlfriend maintain their act?
7. Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead
Akira Tendou, 24, sits in a trash-filled flat, watching a zombie movie with lifeless, envious eyes. His spirit is broken after three years of hard work at an exploitative corporation in Japan. He can’t even bring himself to confess his feelings to his lovely coworker Ootori. Then one morning, he comes across his landlord eating lunch with another tenant! The entire city is overrun with zombies, and despite the fact that he’s running for his life, Akira has never felt more alive!
Episode 1 was previewed at a screening at Anime Expo on July 1, 2023. Regular broadcasting began on July 9, 2023.
6. The Eminence in Shadow Season 2
Second Season of The Eminence in Shadow.
Deep within the Lawless City lies the Blood Queen, a Progenitor Vampire, slumbering in her coffin for many moons. Cid, an expert at getting himself into trouble, should know better than to pursue her…But he’s desperate for a piece of the action.
It’s time for him to shed his daytime persona and assume the role of Shadow! However, it appears that he is not the only one who has had this thought. Soon after, he discovers that the Lawless City’s three rulers—Juggernaut the Tyrant, Yukime the Spirit Fox, and Crimson the vampire—are all on his tail.
To make matters worse, the Shadow Garden descends on the scene as the hour of the Blood Queen’s awakening approaches…
5. Masamune-kun’s Revenge R
Second season of Masamune-kun’s Revenge. If you’re unfamiliar with the series, here’s the synopsis:
Masamune Makabe was rejected as a child by a rich, beautiful girl named Aki Adagaki, who gave him the nickname ”Piggy” because he was overweight. Masamune, who was devastated, worked hard to improve his appearance. Masamune, now a handsome but narcissistic high school student, is determined to exact revenge by having Aki fall madly in love with him and then reject her the next time they meet.
To his surprise, Masamune discovers he has transferred to Aki’s school. Setting his plan into motion, Masamune first begins to form a relationship with the ”Brutal Princess” but, despite his efforts, fails miserably at his initial attempts. Surprisingly, as Masamune nears his vengeance, he receives a mysterious letter addressed to him by his old nickname. Unless Masamune discovers the identity of the sender, his plan is doomed before it even begins!
4. BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Separation –
Second cour of BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War. The anime adapts the final manga arc, Sennen Kessen-hen (Thousand-Year Blood War Arc), which spans from the 55th to the 74th volumes.
Ichigo Kurosaki, a substitute Soul Reaper, spends his days fighting Hollows, dangerous evil spirits that threaten Karakura Town. Ichigo’s closest allies include Orihime Inoue, a childhood friend with a gift for healing, Yasutora Sado, a high school classmate with superhuman strength, and Uryuu Ishida, Ichigo’s Quincy rival.
The unexpected appearance of Asguiaro Ebern, a dangerous Arrancar who heralds the return of Yhwach, an ancient Quincy king, disrupts Ichigo’s vigilante routine. Yhwach seeks to reignite the historic blood feud between Soul Reaper and Quincy, with the goal of permanently eradicating both the human world and the Soul Society.
Yhwach launches a two-pronged attack on the Soul Society as well as Hueco Mundo, the home of Hollows and Arrancar. In retaliation, Ichigo and his friends must fight alongside old allies and enemies alike to put an end to Yhwach’s carnage campaign before the world itself ends.
3. Horimiya: The Missing Pieces
Horimiya: The Missing Pieces features stories from the manga not adapted in the main anime.
On the surface, the thought of Kyouko Hori and Izumi Miyamura getting along would seem unlikely. After all, Hori combines beauty and intelligence, whereas Miyamura appears meek and distant to his classmates. However, a fateful encounter between the two reveals both of their hidden selves. Hori is popular at school, but due to housework, she has little time to socialize with her friends. Miyamura, on the other hand, lives under the noses of his peers, his body covered in secret tattoos and piercings that make him appear to be a gentle delinquent.
Despite having opposing personalities, the two quickly become friends and frequently spend time together in Hori’s home. As they both emerge from their shells, they share a side of themselves that is hidden from the outside world.
2. Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation S2
Second season of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation.
Despite being bullied, scorned, and oppressed his entire life, a 34-year-old shut-in mustered the courage to attempt something heroic—only for it to end tragically. In an unexpected turn of events, he awakens in another world as Rudeus Greyrat, resuming his life as a baby born to two loving parents.
Rudeus quickly adapts to his new environment by retaining his memories and knowledge from his previous life. He begins to demonstrate magical talent that exceeds all expectations, honing his skill with the assistance of a mage named Roxy Migurdia. Rudeus is taught swordplay by his father, Paul, and meets Sylphiette, a young girl who quickly becomes his best friend.
As Rudeus’ second chance at life begins, he strives to make the most of his newfound freedom while overcoming his traumatic past. And maybe one day he’ll find the one thing he couldn’t find in his previous life: love.
1. JUJUTSU KAISEN S2
The second season of Jujutsu Kaisen will feature a bunch of new characters as well as adaptations of the ‘Hidden Inventory’ and ‘Shibuya Incident’ arcs.
‘Hidden Inventory’ will follow Gojo Satoru through his high school years and his first encounters with Geto and other characters, while ‘Shibuya Incident’ will focus on the story’s current events.
