15. Erased
Satoru Fujinuma is sent back several minutes before an accident occurs when tragedy is about to strike. The detached 29-year-old manga artist has used this powerful yet mysterious phenomenon, dubbed “Revival,” to save many lives.
However, when he is wrongfully accused of murdering someone close to him, Satoru is sent back in time, this time to 1988, 18 years ago. Soon after, he realises that the murder may be linked to the kidnapping and murder of one of his classmates, the solitary and mysterious Kayo Hinazuki when he was a child. This is his opportunity to make things right.
Erased follows Satoru on his quest to discover what really happened 18 years ago and prevent his classmate’s death while protecting those he cares about in the present.
14. The Quintessential Quintuplets
Fuutarou Uesugi is an excellent high school student who leads an otherwise difficult life. His aloof personality and reclusive nature have left him friendless, and his father is in debt, forcing his family to eke out a living.
During his lunch break one day, Uesugi gets into an argument with a female transfer student who has claimed “his seat,” causing both of them to dislike each other. On the same day, he is presented with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to pay off his family’s debt: a private tutoring gig for a wealthy family’s daughter at five times the market rate. He accepts the proposal, but is shocked to learn that the client, Itsuki Nakano, is the same girl he confronted earlier!
After failing to regain Itsuki’s favor, Uesugi discovers that his problems do not end there: Itsuki is a quintuplet, so in addition to her, he must tutor her sisters—Miku, Yotsuba, Nino, and Ichika—who, despite the very real threat of failing, refuse to work with a tutor. However, his family’s livelihood is at stake, so Uesugi perseveres, adamant in his determination to cure the sisters’ aversion to studying and successfully lead them to graduation.
13. Violet Evergarden
After four long years of conflict, the Great War came to an end; fractured in two, Telesis slowly began to flourish once more. Violet Evergarden, a young girl raised for the sole purpose of decimating enemy lines, was caught up in the carnage. She was hospitalized and maimed in a bloody skirmish during the War’s final leg, leaving her with only words from the person she loved the most, but no understanding of what they meant.
Violet begins a new life working at CH Postal Services after a falling out with her new intended guardian family. There, by chance, she witnesses the work of a “Auto Memory Doll,” which transcribes people’s thoughts and feelings into words on paper. Violet is moved by the idea and starts working as an Auto Memory Doll, a trade that will take her on an adventure, one that will reshape the lives of her clients and hopefully lead to self-discovery.
12. Your Lie in April
Kousei Arima is a child prodigy known as the “Human Metronome” for his precision and perfection in playing the piano. Kousei, who is guided by a strict mother and rigorous training, dominates every competition he enters, earning the admiration of his musical peers as well as audience praise. When his mother dies unexpectedly, the resulting trauma renders him unable to hear the sound of a piano, and he never returns to the stage.
As a junior high school student, Kousei leads a quiet and unassuming life with his friends Tsubaki Sawabe and Ryouta Watari. He continues to cling to music as he struggles to come to terms with his mother’s death. His monotonous existence is turned upside down when he meets the eccentric violinist Kaori Miyazono, who hires him as her accompanist. Through a little deception, these two young musicians become closer as Kaori attempts to colorize Kousei’s world.
11. Toradora
Ryuuji Takasu is a gentle high school student who enjoys housework; however, his intimidating face often leads to him being labeled as a delinquent. Taiga Aisaka, on the other hand, is a small, doll-like student who is anything but a cute and fragile girl. Taiga, armed with a wooden katana and a fiery personality, is known as the “Palmtop Tiger” throughout the school.
An embarrassing mistake brings the two students together one day. Taiga has a crush on the popular vice president, Yuusaku Kitamura, who also happens to be his best friend, which Ryuuji discovers. But things get even crazier when Ryuuji admits to having a crush on Taiga’s best friend, Minori Kushieda!
Toradora! is a romantic comedy that follows this odd couple as they set out to help each other with their crushes, forming an unlikely alliance in the process.
10. The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.
To the average person, psychic abilities may appear to be a blessing; however, for Kusuo Saiki, this could not be further from the truth. With supernatural abilities ranging from telepathy to x-ray vision, he sees this so-called blessing as nothing more than a curse. As the inconveniences caused by his powers mount, all Kusuo wants is a normal, trouble-free life—a life where ignorance is bliss.
Unfortunately, the life of a psychic is anything but peaceful. Though Kusuo tries to avoid the spotlight by keeping his powers hidden from his classmates, he inadvertently attracts the attention of a slew of strange characters, including the empty-headed Riki Nendou and the delusional Shun Kaidou. Forced to deal with the craziness of those around him, Kusuo discovers that the ordinary life he has been pursuing is far more difficult to achieve than he anticipated.
9. One Punch Man
Saitama, who appears unimpressive, has a rather unusual hobby: he is a hero. Saitama relentlessly trained for three years to pursue his childhood dream, losing all of his hair in the process. Saitama is now so powerful that he can defeat any foe with a single punch. However, the fact that no one can match his strength has caused Saitama to face an unexpected problem: he is no longer able to enjoy the thrill of battle and has grown quite bored.
Saitama one day catches the attention of Genos, a 19-year-old cyborg who witnesses his power and wishes to become Saitama’s disciple. Genos suggests that the two become certified heroes and be recognized for their positive contributions to society by joining the Hero Association. Saitama, who is surprised that no one knows who he is, agrees quickly. Saitama embarks on a new journey as a member of the Hero Association, meeting new allies and facing new foes in order to relive the thrill of battle.
8. Gurren Lagan
Simon and Kamina grew up in a deep, underground village hidden beneath the fabled surface. Kamina is a free-spirited loose cannon determined to make a name for himself, whereas Simon is a timid young boy with few ambitions. Simon discovers a mysterious object while excavating the earth one day, which turns out to be the ignition key to an ancient artifact of war, which the duo names Lagann. Simon and Kamina use their new weapon to repel a surprise attack from the surface, with the assistance of Yoko Littner, a hot-blooded redhead with a massive gun who roams the world above.
Following the battle, the sky is now visible, prompting Simon and Kamina to embark on a journey with Yoko to explore the surface wastelands. Soon after, they join the fight against the “Beastmen,” humanoid creatures who terrorise the surviving humans in powerful robots known as “Gunmen.” Despite some difficulties and setbacks, the trio fights bravely alongside other survivors to reclaim the surface while slowly unravelling a galaxy-sized mystery.
7. Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure
The year is 1868, and after being rescued from a carriage accident, English nobleman George Joestar and his son Jonathan become indebted to Dario Brando. What the Joestars don’t realize is that Dario had no intention of assisting them; he thought they were dead and was attempting to raid their belongings. After Dario’s death 12 years later, George adopts his son, Dio, in an attempt to repay his debt.
While publicly adoring his new father, Dio is plotting to steal the Joestar fortune. His first step is to split George and Jonathan apart. Dio solidifies his place in the Joestar family by consistently outdoing his foster brother. However, when Dio goes too far, Jonathan defeats him in a brawl.
Years later, the two appear to be close friends in public. But trouble brews once more when George becomes ill, as Jonathan suspects Dio is behind the incident—and he appears to have more tricks up his sleeve.
6. Parasyte: The Maxim
They appeared out of nowhere: parasitic aliens who descended on Earth and quickly infiltrated humanity by burrowing into vulnerable targets’ brains. In order to feed on unsuspecting prey, these insatiable beings gain complete control of their host and can morph into a variety of forms.
Shinichi Izumi, a sixteen-year-old high school student, becomes infected with one of these parasites, but it does not take over his brain, instead landing in his right hand. Because it is unable to relocate, the parasite, now known as Migi, must rely on Shinichi to survive. As a result, the pair is forced to coexist in an uneasy manner and must defend themselves from hostile parasites hoping to eradicate this new threat to their species.
5. Fate/Zero
The omnipotent Holy Grail, with the promise of granting any wish, sparked three wars in the past, each too cruel and fierce to leave a victor. Despite this, the wealthy Einzbern family is confident that the Fourth Holy Grail War will be different because they now possess a vessel of the Holy Grail. The Einzberns hire the despised “Magus Killer” Kiritsugu Emiya solely for this reason, with marriage to their only daughter Irisviel as a binding contract.
Kiritsugu is now at the center of a brutal survival game, pitted against six other players, each armed with an ancient familiar and driven by distinct desires and ideals. The notorious mercenary, accompanied by his own familiar, Saber, soon finds his greatest opponent in Kirei Kotomine, a priest who seeks salvation from the emptiness within himself in pursuit of Kiritsugu.
Fate/Zero, based on Gen Urobuchi’s light novel, depicts the events of the Fourth Holy Grail War—ten years before Fate/stay night. Witness a battle royale in which no one can be certain of survival.
4. Naruto
A huge demon known as the Kyuubi, the Nine-Tailed Fox, attacked Konohagakure, the Hidden Leaf Village, and wreaked havoc moments before Naruto Uzumaki’s birth. To end the Kyuubi’s rampage, the village’s leader, the Fourth Hokage, sacrificed his life and sealed the monstrous beast inside the newborn Naruto.
Naruto is now a hyperactive, knucklehead ninja who still lives in Konohagakure. Shunned by the village because of the Kyuubi within him, Naruto struggles to find his place in the village, while his burning desire to become the Hokage of Konohagakure leads him not only to some wonderful new friends, but also to some lethal foes.
3. Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World-
When Subaru Natsuki walks out of the convenience store, the last thing he expects is to be ripped from his everyday life and thrust into a fantasy world. Things are not looking good for the befuddled teen, who is attacked by some thugs not long after his arrival. He is quickly beaten to a pulp, armed only with a bag of groceries and a now-ineffective cell phone. Fortunately, a mysterious beauty named Satella, who is on the hunt for the person who stole her insignia, comes across Subaru and saves him. Subaru offers to assist in her search to thank the honest and kindhearted girl, and later that night, he discovers the location of what she seeks. But, unbeknownst to them, a much darker force stalks the pair from the shadows, and Subaru and Satella are brutally murdered just minutes after discovering the insignia.
However, when Subaru awakens to a familiar scene—confronted by the same gang of thugs, meeting Satella all over again—the mystery deepens as history inexplicably repeats itself.
2. Attack on Titan
Centuries ago, monstrous humanoid creatures known as Titans slaughtered humanity to near extinction, forcing humans to hide in fear behind massive concentric walls. What makes these giants truly terrifying is that their desire for human flesh appears to be motivated by pleasure rather than hunger. To ensure their survival, humanity’s remnants began to live within defensive barriers, resulting in a century without a single titan encounter. That fragile peace is quickly shattered when a colossal Titan breaches the supposedly impregnable outer wall, reigniting the battle for survival against the man-eating abominations.
Following a horrific personal loss at the hands of the invading creatures, Eren Yeager dedicates his life to their abolition by enlisting in the Survey Corps, an elite military unit that combats the merciless humanoids outside the walls. Eren, his adopted sister Mikasa Ackerman, and his childhood friend Armin Arlert join the Titans’ brutal war and race to find a way to defeat them before the last walls fall.
1. Hunter x Hunter
Hunters devote their lives to dangerous tasks such as exploring uncharted territories and tracking down rare items and monsters. Before becoming a Hunter, one must pass the Hunter Examination, a high-risk selection process in which the majority of applicants become disabled or, worse, die.
Participants who are ambitious enough to take the infamous exam do so for their own reasons. Finding Ging, his father and a Hunter himself, is what drives 12-year-old Gon Freecss. Gon takes the first step toward becoming a Hunter, believing that by doing so, he will meet his father.
Gon befriends medical student Leorio Paladiknight, the vindictive Kurapika, and ex-assassin Killua Zoldyck during the Hunter Examination. While their motivations are vastly different, they band together for a common goal and embark on a perilous journey.
BONUS: Uncle from Another World
Takafumi Takaoka’s uncle, Yousuke “Ojisan” Shibazaki, has been comatose for 17 years after being hit by a truck. When Ojisan regains consciousness, he begins babbling in a foreign language and reveals that he has been transported to the magical world of Gran Bahamal. Takafumi dismisses his uncle’s claims as ridiculous until an incantation causes a cup of water to float in midair. In a stroke of genius, the couple creates a YouTube channel to showcase Ojisan’s magical abilities.
Takafumi now has the responsibility of informing Ojisan about everything that has happened during his absence, including the internet, new technology, and, surprisingly, the outcome of the ’90s console war—the outcome of which was especially distressing for a hardcore SEGA fan. They grow their YouTube channel and deal with online comments and trolls with the help of Ojisan’s wisdom from his other world experiences. This uncle-nephew duo’s journey promises to be anything but ordinary.
Uncle from Another World is a unique isekai about a returnee uncle who was stuck in another world for 17 years and is now back on earth and living with his nephew while making money from youtube videos. It is one of the better isekai this season and is also really funny. Just go and watch it.
