Isekai anime tend to be both imaginative (especially with their titles) and fun with some of the most creative stories (jk). If you’re new to this genre, in Isekai anime, the main character is transported to another world, mostly after they die in their world. After getting transported into an unfamiliar world they must find a way to survive. The genre’s premise allows for action, introspection, personal growth, and HAREMS.
In this list, we’ll be going over the 10 Best Isekai Anime Ever Made That You Must Watch
10. Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash
Grimgar is probably the only realistic isekai anime ever made.
It follows a group of people who wake up in a strange fantasy world with no memories of who they are or how they got there. They form a party and must fight monsters and complete quests to survive in a world filled with danger. Along the way, they must also learn to cope with their own feelings of loneliness and helplessness as they grapple with their newfound reality.
Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash is a story of personal growth, friendship, and courage in the face of adversity.
9. Isekai Quartet
Isekai Quartet is an anime crossover series created by Studio Puyukai. It follows characters from various isekai anime series as they are transported to a new world and attend school together.
The characters come from Re:Zero, KonoSuba, Overlord, and The Saga of Tanya. The series features the characters engaging in various comedic skits and adventures as they learn to live together in their new environment.
I’m gonna be honest here, I did not expect Isekai Quartet to be any good but to my surprise it was amazing. Watching characters from your favorite anime interact with each other in a comedic setting is way more entertaining than you think.
8. GATE: Thus the JSDF Fought There
GATE is a Japanese military fantasy anime series. It follows the story of Itami Youji, a JSDF (Japan Self-Defense Forces) officer who finds himself in a fantasy world and is tasked with protecting the people of the world from a hostile empire. The series focuses on themes of politics, warfare, and morality, as Itami and his team explore the world, work to make peace, and learn about their new home. Along the way, they come into contact with various magical creatures and befriend the demi-humans living in the world.
GATE is different from other isekai in the sense that it is a two-way isekai. When a strange portal opens up in the middle of Tokyo, Earth is invaded by beings from another world. Youji Itami, who is simply trying to get to a doujinshi convention, ends up repelling multiple invaders and saving countless lives. As a result, he is chosen to be among the group of people sent to explore the new realm. Their goal is to broker peace, but if they fail, they could spark the most devastating war either world has ever seen.
It’s definitely one of my favorite isekai anime and I hope it gets a third season. I highly recommend watching it.
7. Saga of Tanya The Evil
Tanya Degurechaff is a young soldier renowned for her ruthless tactics and outstanding tactical ability, earning her the nickname of the “Devil of the Rhine.” In truth, she is the reincarnation of a man who defied Being X, the self-proclaimed God, in a battle of wits. Now determined to defy the self-proclaimed God, Tanya strives to rise in rank in her country’s military as it begins to enter a world war. Her shrewd actions and strategic prowess, however, have an unintended consequence of making the Empire one of the most powerful nations in human history. Despite Being X’s attempt to prevent her from achieving a peaceful life, Tanya is determined to succeed.
The series follows Tanya as she rises in the ranks of the military, dealing with both personal issues and threats from outside forces while trying to stay one step ahead of her superiors.
6. The Rising of the Shield Hero
The Rising of the Shield Hero follows Naofumi Iwatani, a young man who is suddenly summoned to another world and and with him 3 others from different versions of Japan. To defeat the Waves, the four heroes are given a sword, spear, bow, and shield. Naofumi Iwatani, an otaku, is cursed with the role of “Shield Hero.” Naofumi is mocked and belittled by his fellow heroes and the people of the kingdom because of his lackluster offensive abilities and personality.
When the heroes are given resources and comrades to train with, Naofumi sets out with Malty Melromarc, the only person willing to train alongside him. However, he is soon betrayed by her and falsely accused of taking advantage of her. The people of Melromarc then begin to discriminate against and hate Naofumi for something he did not do. Naofumi embarks on his journey of self-improvement and reputation-building with a raging storm of hurt and mistrust in his heart. Later on, however, the difficulty of being on his own sets in, so Naofumi purchases Raphtalia, a demi-human slave on the verge of death, to accompany him on his journey.
5. Overlord
The end of the popular virtual reality game Yggdrasil has arrived. Momonga, a powerful wizard and master of the dark guild Ainz Ooal Gown, however, decides to spend his final moments in the game as the servers begin to shut down. Despite the fact that the clock has struck midnight, Momonga remains fully conscious as his character, and the non-player characters appear to have developed personalities of their own!
When confronted with this unusual situation, Momonga orders his loyal servants to assist him in investigating and taking control of this new world, in the hopes of determining what has caused this development and if there are others in the same situation.
4. KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World
Kazuma Satou, a high school student, and hikikomori, finds himself sitting before a beautiful but obnoxious goddess named Aqua, after dying a laughable and pathetic death on his way back from buying a game. She gives him two choices: continue on to heaven or reincarnate in every gamer’s fantasy world!
Kazuma, who has chosen to start a new life, is quickly tasked with defeating a Demon King who is terrorizing villages. But before he leaves, he can choose one item of any type to help him in his quest and to mess with the Goddess Aqua for making fun of him, he picks her as the one thing he can take to the other world. But Kazuma has made a huge mistake: Aqua is completely useless!
3. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime
Satoru Mikami falls victim to a random assailant on the streets and is stabbed. However, to his surprise, he wakes up in another world… as a slime. Following his reincarnation, he comes across the sealed Catastrophe-level monster, the “Storm Dragon” Veldora, who has been imprisoned for the past 300 years. Satoru befriends him, sympathizing with his predicament and promising to help him destroy the seal. In exchange, Veldora bestows him with the name ‘Rimuru Tempest’ in order to grant him divine protection.
Rimuru, now with his newfound abilities, quickly evolves into one of the world’s strongest beings in the world. I’d highly recommend watching this as it’s one of the best anime I have ever watched.
People always like like comparing That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and Overlord. But let me tell you something, Overlord is NOT better than That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.
2. Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-
When Subaru Natsuki walks out of the convenience store, the last thing he expects is to be ripped from his everyday life and thrust into a fantasy world. Things are not looking good for the befuddled teen, who is attacked by some thugs not long after his arrival. He is quickly beaten to a pulp, armed only with a bag of groceries and a now-ineffective cell phone. Fortunately, a mysterious beauty named Satella, who is on the hunt for the person who stole her insignia, comes across Subaru and saves him. Subaru offers to assist in her search to thank the honest and kindhearted girl, and later that night, he discovers the location of what she seeks. But, unbeknownst to them, a much darker force stalks the pair from the shadows, and Subaru and Satella are brutally murdered just minutes after discovering the insignia.
However, when Subaru awakens to a familiar scene—confronted by the same gang of thugs, meeting Satella all over again—the mystery deepens as history inexplicably repeats itself.
1. Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation
Despite being bullied, scorned, and oppressed his entire life, a 34-year-old shut-in mustered the courage to attempt something heroic—only for it to end tragically. In an unexpected turn of events, he awakens in another world as Rudeus Greyrat, resuming his life as a baby born to two loving parents.
Rudeus quickly adapts to his new environment by retaining his memories and knowledge from his previous life. He begins to demonstrate magical talent that exceeds all expectations, honing his skill with the assistance of a mage named Roxy Migurdia. Rudeus is taught swordplay by his father, Paul, and meets Sylphiette, a young girl who quickly becomes his best friend.
As Rudeus’ second chance at life begins, he strives to make the most of his newfound freedom while overcoming his traumatic past. And maybe one day he’ll find the one thing he couldn’t find in his previous life: love.
Mushoku Tensei has the least likable main character ever, and it’s not even close. Right from the first episode, the main character is so disgustingly disturbing that most of you will drop the anime. But, trust me if you put up with the weird main character for a while, the payoff is actually insane.
