The Vexations of a Shut-In Vampire Princess is based on the light novels written by Kotei Kobayashi and published by SB Creative under the GA Bunko label. As of January 15, 2019, the book series had ten volumes. It has also influenced riichu’s Square Enix-published manga adaptation.
Yen Press describes the plot as:
Terakomari Gandesblood (Komari for short) awakens three years into her life as a shut-in to find herself appointed as a Commander in the Mulnite Imperial Army! The problem is that her new unit is made up entirely of belligerent ruffians who revolt against their superiors at the first sign of weakness. Although Komari comes from a powerful and illustrious line of vampires, her refusal to drink blood has left her scrawny, uncoordinated, and inept at magic. With the odds stacked against her, will the assistance of her trusty (and slightly infatuated) maid Vill be enough to propel this recluse to success? Or will Komari regret ever leaving the safety of her room?
