Since its August 6 release, One Piece Film Red has made over 6.47 billion yen (US$48.5 million) at the Japanese box office, according to Kogyo Tsushin.
With its current profits, One Piece Film Red is on track to become the highest-grossing One Piece film. That honour is now held by One Piece Film Z, which grossed 6.87 billion yen (US$51.54 million) in 2012.
One Piece Film Red earned 1.497 billion yen (US$11.2 million) in its second weekend, keeping it atop the weekend box office; the film earned 2.25 billion yen (US$16.68 million) in its first weekend. A total of nearly 4.62 million moviegoers were registered, with a second-weekend moviegoer count of 1.03 million.
One Piece Film Red is the fifteenth One Piece film. Uta (Kaori Nazuka; singing voice Ado) is a new character in the film who is Shank’s daughter. Gorou Taniguchi (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;Surrection, One Piece: Taose! Kaizoku Gyanzakku) directs the film, with Tsutomu Kuroiwa (One Piece Film: Gold, GANTZ:O) as a scriptwriter, Masayuki Satou (One Piece Film Strong World character designer and animation director) as character designer and chief animation director, and One Piece mangaka Eiichiro Oda
Several animated music videos for Uta’s songs from the Uta no Uta One Piece Film Red album have been published, with more on the way. These music videos have proven extremely popular: the first has received about 29 million views since its June 15 release, while the latest has received over 6.8 million views since its August 6 debut.
