The Chinese animated series A Herbivorous Dragon of 5,000 Years Gets Unfairly Villainized is gettingĀ a second season, according to an announcement by Kadokawa’s Sneaker Bunko label.
The first 12-episode season of the anime premiered on bilibili on July 30, 2022. Bilibili began streaming the series with English subtitles in August 2022, while Crunchyroll licensed the anime for release outside of Asia. The donghua series’ Japanese dubbed version premiered on January 6, 2024.
The Japanese dub voice cast includes Aoi YuukiĀ as Reiko, Houchuu OotsukaĀ as Herbivorous Dragon, Yoshino NanjouĀ as Ryatt, Mariko MiyaseĀ as Aliante, and Shuka SaitouĀ as Water Saint.
As for the staff, Siwen LiuĀ (Dawang Bu Gaoxing) is directing the series, withĀ Wan Zi as the character designer andĀ LAN STUDIOĀ is the animation production company.Ā
A Herbivorous Dragon of 5,000 Years is an adaptation of Kaisei Enomoto’s original light novel series, which was released between February 1, 2018 and October 1, 2019 under the Sneaker Bunko banner. The artwork for the light novels were created by Shugao. There were three volumes released in total. From June 2017 until June 2020, the series ran as a web book on Shousetsuka ni Narou.
Crunchyroll describes the synopsis as:
Desperate to defend her village from the demon king, Reiko offers herself to a 5,000-year-old dragon for his help in exchange, but the flame-breathing beast is vegetarian and a total weakling. Together they embark on a journey to take down the demon king. With her dragon comrade, Reiko claims that sheās his disciple, able to draw from his infinite powers, but is it really from him?
A manga adaptation by Kouichi Muro inspired by the light novels was serialized in Square Enix’s Monthly Gangan Joker magazine from January 22, 2018, to November 22, 2019. In total, five tankoubon volumes were released.
