Araki Joh’s manga “Bartender” is being adapted into an anime series titled “Bartender God’s Glass” The official release date is April 2024, and a key visual of the protagonist, bartender Sasakura Ryu, pouring a cocktail has been shared on the official website.
This will be the manga series’ second anime adaptation. 18 years ago, the first anime adaptation was released. Ry Sasakura, a talented barman known for creating the best cocktails, is central to the plot. He employs his abilities to comfort and soothe the souls of his troubled clients.
Studio Liber, best known for their work on Cue! and A3! SEASON SPRING & SUMMER, will handle the series’ animation.
Director Ryouichi Kuratani, who worked on the “Tsugumomo” series and “Isekai Nonbiri Nouka” (Farming Life in Another World), is among the cast members. Mari Kounosuke, who was in charge of the series composition in “Honzuki no Gekokujou,” “Housekisho Richard-shi no Nazo Kantei” (The Case Files of Jeweller Richard), and “Orient,” will also contribute to the series composition.
Youichi Ueda will oversee character design, having previously worked as a character designer and chief animation director on “Tenkuu Shinpan” (High-Rise Invasion), “GANGSTA.”, and “Bokura no Yoake” (Our Dawn).
Synopsis:
Bartender follows the nightlife of Ryū Sasakura, a bartending prodigy who is said to mix the best cocktails anyone has ever tasted. Sasakura spends his time in a pub called Eden Hall, which is hidden in a nook of Tokyo’s Ginza district. Normal people, it is said, cannot simply find and enter Eden Hall, but must be invited in by the host. Throughout the anime, various figures of high and low stature, all of whom share unusual troubles and heavy burdens, are “invited” into Eden Hall and treated to Sasakura’s fine drinks, which lead the customers to reflect on their lives and decide on a course of action to deal with their problems, with guidance from the young barman.
The manga was first serialized in Shueisha’s Japanese Seinen magazine Super Jump from 2004 to 2011 and was later compiled into twenty-one tankōbon volumes.
Bartender was adapted into an anime television series that aired on Fuji Television in 2006, and a Japanese television drama that aired on TV Asahi in 2011. Between 2012 and 2019, three spin-off manga (Bartender à Paris, Bartender à Tokyo, and Bartender 6stp) were serialized in Grand Jump and Grand Jump Premium. In Japan, the series has sold over 2.8 million copies.
