“Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS”, a prequel manga to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners that will focus on Rebecca and her brother Pilar has been announced. The manga has started serialization on KADOKAWA‘s Comic Alive +.
The writer of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESSi is Bartosz Sztybor from CD Projekt Red, who handled the anime’s screen story. The artist is Asano, known for illustrating the manga adaptation of BNA: Brand New Animal.
The story follows siblings Rebecca and Pilar as they race through Night City, determined to prove themselves as edgerunners. A mysterious figure named Safran also plays a significant role in shaping their journey. KADOKAWA also announced that it will collaborate with regional partners to distribute the Polish, Italian, German, French, Spanish, and Traditional Chinese versions. The English version will be released in paperback by Dark Horse Comics LLC.
The Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS prequel manga is described as:
“Rebecca, whose fiery personality made her a fan-favorite, grows up with her big brother Pilar as they pursue their shared dream of ‘becoming a legendary edgerunner like their father,’” reads the synopsis. “In the megalopolis of Night City, where obsessions with technology, body modification, and power run rampant, they struggle, suffer, and cause chaos wherever they go! As they go about their daily lives, the mysterious Safran appears before them — changing the trajectory of their future. In this manga, a prequel to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, siblings Rebecca and Pilar’s lives are full of madness as they rush through Night City to prove themselves as edgerunners!”
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, was released as a 10-episode anime on Netflix on September 13, 2022. It follows street kid David (KENN) as he becomes a cyberpunk after meeting netrunner Lucy (Aoi Yuki). Directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi (Promare) and produced by Studio Trigger, it’s based on CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 and Mike Pondsmith’s tabletop RPG. The series won Best New Anime and Best Original Anime awards and is available on Netflix.
A new Cyberpunk animated project is also in production, marking another collaboration between Netflix Animation, CD Projekt Red, and the Cyberpunk franchise.
