TOHO has released the first full trailer for Great Pretender razbliuto, the previously announced sequel to the heist-themed original anime Great Pretender, which debuted in 2020.
The trailer primarily introduces the new series’ cast, which is led by an amnesic Dorothy, the former partner and lover of conman Laurent Thierry, who has previously appeared in flashbacks and a post-credits scene. She’s being voiced by Yuka Komatsu.
The other main characters in razbliuto include:
- Jei (Shunsuke Takeuchi), a high-ranking member of the Taipei underworld’s leading organization.
- Ai (Yasuhiro Mamiya), the self-proclaimed number one swindler in Taipei.
- Lin (Kazuyuki Okitsu), Jei’s ambitious sworn brother.
- Wan (Yasuyuki Kase), the leader of the Taipei underworld. Jei and Lin belong to his organization.
- Sai (Mitsuaki Kanuka), Wan’s right-hand man.
- Bin (Mariya Ise), Wan’s secretary, who was dating Jei until recently.
Laurent (CV: Junichi Suwabe) and Makoto Edamura (CV: Chiaki Kobayashi) will also appear in the anime. Hiro Kaburagi is returning to direct the Great Pretender razbliuto sequel, and he’s also co-writing the script with Taku Kishimoto. Ryota Kosawa, the first season’s screenwriter, is also returning as script supervisor. Mai Teshima has been promoted to assistant director, and Shosuke Ishibashi has been promoted to chief animation director.
Meanwhile, the rest of the staff includes:
- Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (Season 1 character designer) as Original designer
- Youko Tanji (returning) as Concept designer
- syo5 (returning) as Image designer
- Yuusuke Takeda (returning) & Yumiko Sudou (Season 1 image board co-artist) as Art directors
- Yuko Kobari (returning) as Color designer
- Kazuto Izumita (returning) as Compositing director
- Yutaka Yamada (returning) as Music composer
WIT Studio is returning as the animation studio, Great Pretender Razbliuto will be released in North American theaters on January 9 and 10, while it will be available on DMM TV in Japan beginning February 23. It’s still unclear how much will be shown in theaters, or how many hours of content the show contains in total.
The original Great Pretender premiered on Netflix Japan in June 2020, followed by a July premiere on Fuji TV’s +Ultra. It was released on Netflix worldwide in August.
Crunchyroll will stream Great Pretender razbliuto worldwide (excluding China, the Middle East, and North Africa). Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen, and Sudan have all licensed the show from Manga Production.
