Lycoris Recoil has announced a short movie project. It will be getting a few short movies depicting the everyday lives of Chisato and Takina. Each of the episodes will be directed and storyboarded by different creators, under Shingo Adachi’s supervision, with Imigimuru, the character designer for Lycoris Recoil, writing one of the scripts. According to Adachi, the project’s storyboard artists and episode directors are young creatives who have previously expressed interest in Lycoris Recoil.
Originally revealed during the TV anime’s second anniversary stream (now private), which featured voice actors Chika Anzai and Shion Wakayama alongside director Shingo Adachi, the short movie plan consists of six shorts, each lasting about a few minutes.
The official X account also shared the announcement, along with a teaser image. According to Anzai, the short movies will be released ahead of the new Lycoris Recoil anime project announced in February 2023, though the exact dates are still unknown.
Lycoris Recoil is an original girls-with-guns action anime that aired 13 episodes from July to September 2022 and is available for international streaming on Crunchyroll and Bilibili. The series is set in Japan, where the secret organization DA (Direct Attack) employs teenage female agents known as Lycoris to keep the peace by preemptively stopping crimes using lethal methods. Chisato, the strongest Lycoris, and Takina, a serious Lycoris, work at LycoReco, a DA branch that also serves as a legitimate cafe and offers a variety of other services.
The story is an original work by Spider Lily (Kadokawa Corporation, Dentsu Entertainment, and Aniplex) and Asaura, who is credited for the original story. The animation was carried out by Studio A-1 Pictures. Following the anime’s overwhelming success, the franchise announced manga and light novel adaptations.
