Muv-Luv Alternative season 2 has received its main visual as well as its first trailer, which clocks in at 15 seconds. The trailer shows the returning main cast as well as some action between the TSFs and BETA, while the visual shows protagonist Takeru and his love interest Sumika.
A Japanese release date of October 5 was also revealed. During the Fall 2021 anime season, the first season aired.
Yukio Nishimoto (Ongaku Shoujo) is the director, Tatsuhiko Urahata (Sakura Wars the Animation) is the series composer, Takuya Tani (One Room 3rd) is the character designer, and Evan Call (Violet Evergarden) is the music composer for Muv-Luv Alternative. Flagship Line and Yumeta Company x Graphinica are among the companies involved in animation production. (In 2018, Avex Pictures and Graphinica launched the Flagship Line.)

Meanwhile, Takeru is played by Kouichi Kamiki, Sumika Kagami is played by Tomori Kusunoki, and Meiya Mitsurugi is played by Karin Nanami. Iori Saeki plays Kei Ayamine, Takako Tanaka plays Miki Tamase, and Lynn plays Mikoto Yoroi.
Muv-Luv Alternative is based on a Japanese visual novel that was first released in 2006. The Muv-Luv Alternative visual novel, a sequel to 2003’s Muv-Luv and its second half, Muv-Luv Unlimited, is set in an alternate Earth introduced in Unlimited, in which mankind faces extinction at the hands of an alien race known as the BETA, and has a noticeably darker and more serious tone than its predecessors. Muv-Luv and Muv-Luv Alternative were both released on Steam in 2016 and 2017.
