A new Pokémon TV anime series will premiere in April of next year. And it will introduce two new protagonists, Rico and Roy, who will be joined by the Paldea starter Pokémon Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly.
After all these years, Ash and Pikachu finally met their lifetime goal, and now it’s time to move on… It’s sad to see them go but as they say, all good things come to an end.
A short trailer has also been released revealing the new protagonists.
The announcement of the new series came after the original Pokémon protagonist Ash Ketchum (Satoshi) became World Champion in Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series in November this year. Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series first aired in December 2021, nearly two decades after the first Pokémon series debuted in April 1997.
Ash and Pikachu will return for an 11-episode series titled Pokémon: Mezame Pokémon Master before the new Pokémon anime begins. The series is described as “the final chapter in Ash and Pikachu’s story,” which will premiere in Japan on January 13.

Prior to that, a special episode titled “Pokemon: Harukanaru Aoi Sora” will premiere on December 23.
Pokémon fans have been showering Ash and Pikachu with tributes to their historic adventure since the announcement. Rica Matsumoto, the Japanese voice actor for Ash (Satoshi), tweeted about playing him for two decades, promising that Ash will always be close to fans’ hearts, just like when he first left Pallet Town.

The English voice actor who has played Ash Ketchum for nearly 17 years has also tweeted a tribute to Ash and the franchise on Friday. “Regardless of what happens after his final chapter, he’ll live on in the hearts of many generations to come,” Natochenny wrote. I’ll do everything I can to keep him present for all of us.” Natochenny, then 19, took over the role from Veronica Taylor in 2006.
