Oshi no Ko writer and Kaguya-sama creator Aka Akasaka will start a new manga series titled “Renai Daikou” with art by Nishizawa 5mm in Weekly Young Jump issue 22-23/2023 coming out on April 27, 2023. A visual was also revealed.
As a fellow otaku, I couldn’t be more excited to hear about this new upcoming manga series from Aka Akasaka. While we may not know much about the story just yet, the artwork of the series’ heroine already has us hooked. With long honey-blonde hair, bangs, and a monochrome outfit paired with a choker and hair clip, she looks absolutely adorable. And to top it off, she seems to have a yellow fox hand puppet, which has us all wondering what it could mean for the story.
The title of the series, “Renai Daikou” loosely translates to Love Deputy, so it is likely to be another romantic comedy, which is definitely within Akasaka’s niche. The mangaka first began their career in 2011 with Sayonara Piano Sonata, but it was Kaguya-sama: Love Is War that truly put them on the map in 2015. The series won the 65th Shogakukan Manga Award, and its popularity has only continued to grow since then. With its recent conclusion in 2022, fans are eagerly anticipating what Akasaka has in store for us next.
If you’re new to Akasaka’s work or want to catch up before the release of Renai Daikou, now is the perfect time to do so. Oshi no Ko, their current manga series with artist Mengo Yokoyari, has just premiered its anime adaptation, and just after the 90-minute debut episode, it’s already the rated anime on MyAnimeList. Additionally, the Kaguya-sama anime series is available on Crunchyroll, so you can dive into the world of Akasaka’s romantic comedies to your heart’s content.
It’s always exciting to see a beloved mangaka like Akasaka releasing new content, and we can’t wait to see what Renai Daikou has in store for us. With such a talented artist at the helm, we’re sure to be in for a treat, and we’ll be counting down the days until its release.
