A new key visual for the currently airing Pokémon Horizons: The Series anime has been released. An hour-long premiere of the anime was held in Japan on April 14, 2023.
Pokémon Horizons’ main production team includes Saori Den (Pokémon: Kami to Yobareshi Arceus opening storyboarder), Daiki Tomiyasu (Pokémon Journeys: The Series chief director) as creative director, Tetsuo Yajima (Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle director) as action director, Dai Satou (Yurei Deco) as series screenwriter, Rei Yamazaki (Pokémon Journeys OLM is once again in charge of the series’ animation production.
Minori Suzuki voices Liko, Yuka Terasaki voices Roy, Taku Yashiro voices Professor Friede, and Ikue Ootani voices Captain Pikachu in the anime.
Shun Horie as Amethio (leader of the Explorers group), Ayane Sakura as Orla, Kenta Miyake as Murdock, Kei Shindou as Mollie, Ikkyuu Juku as Ludlow, Kousuke Tanabe as Jil, Arisa Shida as Konia, and Yoshino Aoyama as Kurumin round out the voice cast.
The series follows the adventures of Liko (from the Paldea region), Roy (from the Kanto region), and Friede as they travel across the Pokémon world, gradually unravelling the mysteries of Liko’s pendant and Roy’s Poké Ball. Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly are among the Paldea starter Pokémon featured in the show.
The new anime series was announced after the original Pokémon protagonist Ash Ketchum/Satoshi became World Champion in Pokémon Ultimate Journeys last November. It debuted in December 2021 as part of the long-running Pokémon anime series, which began in April 1997.
