Sabikui Bisco’s anime adaptation will return for a second season in 2022. To commemorate the announcement, an illustration was released.
Sabikui Bisco is based on Shinji Cobkubo’s Dengeki Bunko post-apocalyptic action adventure light novels, which were illustrated by K Akagisi and mocha. The series premiered in 2018 and will have eight volumes by January 2022. On August 10, 2023, Volume 9 will be released.
The first season’s staff includes director Atsushi Ikariya (ID: INVADED character designer/chief animation director), assistant director Daisuke Mataga (ID: INVADED main animator), series composer and scriptwriter Sadayuki Murai (Knights of Sidonia), character designers Ikariya and Ai Asari (ID: INVADED co-prop designer/animation director), and Asari and Norie Igawa (ID: INVADED animation director). The series was created by OZ.
Masakazu Miyake (ID: INVADED) is the art director, Yoshihiro Sono (ID: INVADED art designer) is the creature designer, Emi Chiba (ID: INVADED) is the colour designer, Tasuku Takagi (ID: INVADED assistant photography director) is the photographer, Takeshi Ueda is the music composer, and Kisuke Koizumi (ID: INVADED) is the sound director.
Yen Press describes the plot as:
In the far future, a disaster known as the “Rusty Wind” has transformed the majority of Japan into a barren desert and left civilization in tatters. After his teacher falls prey to the rust, the roguish Bisco Akahoshi embarks on a journey through the sandy wastes to obtain a mushroom known only as the Rust Eater, rumored to cure the ailment. Together with the dashing young doctor Milo, the pair will have to contend with the unforgiving environment and their fellow wanderers in order to make it back alive.
In 2019, the Sabikui Bisco light novel series became the first to top both the All and New categories of the This Light Novel is Amazing! (Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi!) guide book. The books have also been adapted into manga published by Square Enix.
