The Spring 2023 anime season is well underway, with nearly every title having aired at least one episode, allowing fans to compare which series had the best start. It’s too early to tell which anime will be the season’s top performer, but based on their first episodes, it’s clear which ones are in the lead.
The Winter 2023 anime season was pretty good, but Spring 2023 is already wowing anime fans with new and returning anime that, based on their respective premieres, may rank among the best titles of the entire year.
1. “Oshi no Ko”

Ai Hoshino, sixteen, is a talented and beautiful idol who is adored by her fans. She embodies the ideal of a pure, young maiden. But not everything that glitters is gold.
Gorou Amemiya is a rural gynecologist who adores Ai. So when the pregnant idol arrives at his hospital, he is completely perplexed. Gorou assures her of a safe delivery. He has no idea that an encounter with a mysterious figure will result in his untimely death—or so he thought.
When Gorou opens his eyes in the lap of his idol, he discovers that he has been reborn as Aquamarine Hoshino—newborn Ai’s son! With his world turned upside down, Gorou quickly discovers that the world of showbiz is paved with thorns, and that talent does not always translate into success. Will he be able to protect Ai’s smile with the help of an eccentric and unexpected ally?
2. Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village Arc

Tanjiro Kamado, a boy whose family is murdered by a demon, joins the Demon Slayer Corps in order to transform his younger sister Nezuko back into a human after she is transformed into a demon.
Tanjiro’s journey takes him to the Swordsmith Village, where he meets two Hashira, the highest-ranking members of the Demon Slayer Corps – Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito and Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji. With demon shadows lurking nearby, Tanjiro and his comrades face a new battle.
3. Hell’s Paradise

Gabimaru the Hollow, a cold and emotionless ninja from Iwagakure Village, was set up by his fellow ninja and is now on death row. He wants to die because he is tired of killing and betrayal. However, no method of execution works on him because, despite his apparent apathy, Gabimaru does have a reason to live. He wishes to return to his wife, who was the reason he softened and lost his ability to be an effective assassin. As a result, he refuses to die.
Asaemon the Decapitator, a well-known executioner, notices this and has an idea for the ninja. In exchange for a full pardon from the Shogunate, she wants Gabimaru to join an expedition to an island south of Japan in search of the elixir of life. This island, however, is not like any other: it is thought to be Paradise.
The island, however, is full of mysteries, and the exploring team—consisting of those marked for death—may not be fully prepared to deal with them.
4. Dr. Stone: New World

With the Stone Wars concluded, former members of Tsukasa’s Empire of Might join forces with the Kingdom of Science to construct a ship capable of sailing across the open ocean to investigate the mystery of global petrification. However, before they can begin their journey, Senku and his friends must locate some critical resources and push some new scientific advances in order to construct the type of vessel they require.
5. The Ancient Magus’ Bride Season 2

The second season of Mahoutsukai no Yome (The Ancient Magus’ Bride)
Chise Hatori, a 15-year-old Japanese girl, was auctioned off for five million pounds to a tall masked gentleman. She was ready to give herself to any buyer if it meant having a place to call home after being abandoned at a young age and ridiculed by her peers for her unconventional behavior. In chains and on her way to an unknown fate, she overhears robed men gossiping and complaining about how such a buyer got his hands on a rare Sleigh Beggy.
Ignoring the murmurs, the mysterious man leads the young lady to a study, where he reveals himself to be Elias Ainsworth, a magus. After a brief argument and some teleportation magic, the two awaken in Elias’ picturesque cottage in rural England. Chise’s story as the apprentice and supposed bride of the ancient magus begins with her arrival, where she is greeted by fairies and surrounded by strange and wonderful beings.
6. Heavenly Delusion

Robots raise youths in a nursery-style setting within the safety of the walls. While life appears to be monotonous on the surface, the children are full of potential and curiosity. It is, in many ways, a slice of heaven. The outside world is a living hell. It is almost entirely devoid of mechanical elements and is now inhabited by strange, yet powerful supernatural beings.
Maru, with the help of Kiruko, is crisscrossing what was once Tokyo in search of heaven. But after all these years of searching, heaven may be more of an unattainable dream than a possible reality.
7. KonoSuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World!

Megumin and Yunyun of the Crimson Magic Clan are at the top of their class, but they still have a lot to learn. Despite warnings about its limited utility, Megumin believes explosion magic is the path to becoming a great, voluptuous wizard, and she will not be convinced otherwise!
8. Mashle: Magic and Muscles

To everyone else in his magically dominated world, Mash Burnedead is a threat to the gene pool and must be purged. He spends every day training his body in the forest, building muscles strong enough to compete with magic itself! To maintain his peaceful life, the magicless Mash enrolls in the prestigious Easton Magic Academy, competing against the children of some of the realm’s most powerful and elite. Mash appears to be at a disadvantage to his classmates due to his lack of the very skill required to survive at Easton, magic. Mash will have to fight his way through every trial with his fists alone, overcoming magic with muscles, all for the prestigious title of Divine Visionary!
9. Tonikaku Kawaii 2nd Season

Nasa and Tsukasa first met on a fateful snowy night two years ago. The couple is now living in a bathhouse after their previous home burned down. They treasure every moment they spend together and support one another in everything. Nasa, on the other hand, doesn’t know much about Tsukasa because she hasn’t even met her parents. With her past shrouded in intrigue, will Nasa want to delve deeper into Tsukasa’s past—or will the couple’s love blossom even more?
10. Skip and Loafer

11. Insomniacs After School

It all started when one of the Astronomy Club’s members died. The rumored ghost of the club came to life as a result of this.
In the Astronomy Club’s abandoned observatory, grumpy insomniac Ganta Nakami meets the moderately rebellious yet easygoing Isaki Magari. Magari is startled awake and attempts to flee the scene, only to be stopped by a broken door, forcing the two inside. The two form an unlikely friendship, which leads them to use the observatory as a safe haven for interaction.
Houkago Kimi Insomnia follows the time spent in the starlit observatory by insomniacs Nakami and Magari as they help each other cope with insomnia and the long-term effects it has on student life.
12. BIRDIE WING -Golf Girls’ Story- S2

Second season of Birdie Wing: Golf Girls’ Story.
Eve is well-known among those who gamble on golf games, and she makes a living by betting and winning against various opponents. She is known as the “Rainbow Bullet,” and she vows to use only three clubs to defeat her opponents and conquer the world of underground golf. However, Eve’s universe is shaken when she plays a clean game with Aoi Amawashi, a golfing prodigy who came to Nafrece to compete in a golf tournament. Aoi the “Innocent Tyrant,” armed with talent and born into the ideal golfing environment, calmly crushes her enemies while smiling brightly.
Eve and Aoi become intrigued with each other after their game-changing match and promise to battle again someday. As Eve’s aggressive and risk-taking approach clashes with Aoi’s elite and steady playstyle, the two geniuses may just manage to take golf to new heights.
13. Loving Yamada at Lv999

Akane Kinoshita discovers the hard way that gamer boyfriends can be just as bad as offline boyfriends after her boyfriend cheats on her with another girl he met in-game. She meets Akito Yamada, a guildmate with an afro and a Noh mask, while venting her rage by beating mob monsters to a pulp.
Yamada is unsociable and rude, not the type of person who would make Akane swoon. While his gaming stats may be at their peak, Yamada is inexperienced in matters of the heart, and despite this, she is moved by him. Can Akane, who makes new friends along the way, break Yamada’s heart, a final boss-level high school boy?
14. Ranking of Kings: The Treasure Chest of Courage

The kingdom’s people look down on the young Prince Bojji, who cannot hear or speak. They mock his supposed folly by dubbing him “The Useless Prince.”
However, while Bojji is not physically strong, he is not weak in the heart. When he has a chance encounter with a shadow creature, which should have traumatized him, he believes he has found a friend among those who only choose to notice his flaws. He begins meeting with Kage, the shadow, on a regular basis, and the otherwise abrasive creature begins to warm up to him.
Kage and Bojji’s unlikely friendship lays the groundwork for the prince’s journey, one in which he plans to overcome his fears and insecurities. Despite the constant mockery he receives, Bojji resolves to become the best king he can be.
15. Dead Mount Death Play

It’s a battle for the ages as the legendary hero takes on the corpse god necromancer, but something isn’t quite right when the dust settles… The corpse god’s final gambit shot in the final moments of their epic battle was completely unexpected—reincarnation magic! A boy named Polka Shinoyama awakens across space and time, feeling…not quite himself… Who could have predicted that the final battle between good and evil would end up this way?
