A third trailer for The Eminence in Shadow has been released, giving viewers another look at the show’s characters and premise before its October 5 premiere date.
The trailer also teases the opening song “HIGHEST” by OxT as well as the newly revealed characters Hyoro Gari (Yoshitsugu Matsuoka) and Jaga Imo (Shin Matsushige).
The Eminence in Shadow is based on the Daisuke Aizawa-illustrated isekai light novel series by Kadokawa, which began in 2018 and has four volumes as of February 2021. The books are released under the Enterbrain imprint.
The anime’s main staff includes director Kazuya Nakanishi (Comic Girls assistant director, Vivid Strike! main animator), series composer Kanichi Katou (Those Snow White Notes), and character designer Makoto Iino (Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies Moved to a Starter Town). The animation production company is Nexus.
Other members of the team include art director Beom-Seon Lee (Lupin the 3rd Part 6), color designers Naoto Tanaka (Darwin’s Game) and Junko Okazaki (Darwin’s Game), photography director Takeshi Hirooka (The Honor Student at Magic High School), and music composer Kenichirou Suehiro (Shadows House).

The light novels Eminence in Shadow inspired a manga adaptation by Sakano Anri and a comedic manga spin-off by Seta U. In 2018, the story began as a web novel on Shouetsuka ni Narou.
Yen Press describes the light novel’s first volume as:
Even in his past life, Cid’s dream wasn’t to become a protagonist or a final boss. He’d rather lie low as a minor character until it’s prime time to reveal he’s a mastermind…or at least, do the next best thing-pretend to be one! And now that he’s been reborn into another world, he’s ready to set the perfect conditions to live out his dreams to the fullest. Armed with his overactive imagination, Cid jokingly recruits members to his organization and makes up a whole backstory about an evil cult that they need to take down. Well, as luck would have it, these imaginary adversaries turn out to be the real deal-and everyone knows the truth but him!
