The opening song details for The Eminence in Shadow have been released. The song is titled “HIGHEST” and is performed by the music duo OxT.
The Eminence in Shadow Anime will debut in October. It is based on the Daisuke Aizawa-illustrated light novels published by Kadokawa, which began in 2018 and will feature four volumes by February 2021. The novels are released under the Enterbrain imprint.
Yen Press describes the light novels’ first volume as:
Even in his past life, Cid’s dream wasn’t to become a protagonist or a final boss. He’d rather lie low as a minor character until it’s prime time to reveal he’s a mastermind…or at least, do the next best thing-pretend to be one! And now that he’s been reborn into another world, he’s ready to set the perfect conditions to live out his dreams to the fullest. Armed with his overactive imagination, Cid jokingly recruits members to his organization and makes up a whole backstory about an evil cult that they need to take down. Well, as luck would have it, these imaginary adversaries turn out to be the real deal-and everyone knows the truth but him!
The main staff comprises director Kazuya Nakanishi (Comic Girls assistant director, Vivid Strike! main animator), series composer Kanichi Katou (Those Snow White Notes), and character designer Makoto Iino (Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies Moved to a Starter Town). The animation production business is Nexus.
Meanwhile, the cast includes Seiichirou Yamashita as Cid Kagenou, Kana Hanazawa as Alexia Midgar, Youko Hikasa as Iris Midgar, Asami Seto as Alpha, Inori Minase as Beta, Suzuko Mimori as Gamma, Fairouz Ai as Delta, Hisako Kanemoto as Episolon, Ayaka Asai as Zeta, and Reina Kondo as Eta.
Sakano Anri’s manga adaptation of the light novels and Seta U’s hilarious manga spin-off have both been influenced by the light novels. In 2018, the story began as a web novel on Shouetsuka ni Narou.
